California poppy is a must-have in the lush flower garden, because it just keeps on producing an abundance of the most beautiful flowers of all the different colours. At first, the plant forms a cone-shaped sheath, which it sheds when the flower unfolds its petals. The plant is very vigorous and it is incredible how many flowers it can create in just one season. California poppy is basically a perennial, but in Denmark it does not survive the frost, so here it is considered an annual. If you have it in pots that are brought inside over the winter, it may survive and make it through another season.
The flower is also called the "four o'clock flower" because the flowers "close" in the afternoon.
