Wild fennel is a versatile plant that can do a little bit of everything. Firstly, it is very pretty, especially if it is allowed to stand and tower above other brightly colored annuals with its more subdued yellow-green umbels - as it grows tall, it is good for the back of a flower bed. In addition, wild fennel is a great plant because its seeds can be used for baking, cooking and tea - they taste like anis. Moreover, wild fennel as for centuries been used in natural medicine.
As it is a biennial plant, in the first year the plant produces only the familiar fennel stem and in the second year it develops into a tall, broad plant with a profusion of flowers. After flowering, the plant dies.
