Sowing: All year on top of the soil. Saxifraga needs light to germinate. You can advantageously pre-germinate the seeds on the windowsill in early spring and plant them out in the summer, because the seeds are very very small and can quickly be taken by wind and rain.
Flowering: May-June. Probably does not flower until the second year.
Saxifraga is well known to anyone who has rock beds and rock gardens. It creates the most beautiful very dense low cushions of fresh green on the stone wall and produces some of the most beautiful spring flowers in May. Saxifraga flowers extend up from the cushion to a height of about 10-15 cm with tightly packed single elegant flower heads.
This is a mix of white, red and pink saxifraga. Saxifraga is a rock bed plant and is best suited to growing on stone walls, stone beds, courtyards and rock gardens where it will thrive if left alone.
