Lentils are one of the easiest things to grow in the garden and are great for effectively covering the soil from weeds. Growing lentils produces these large cushions or bushes of green with the most delicate little pale blue flowers. Lentils flower over a long period of time and are a delight to the eye. However, the flowers of the lentil are very small, so they are not so showy in the flower bed.
At Lindelyst I grow three different kinds of lentils, all of which look exactly the same in leaf and flower, but whose seeds have different colours. This is the black lentil.
Lentils can be eaten in cooking, but you need to be patient if you want to peel enough lentils for a soup. However, it can be done and tastes great. Here at Lindelyst, we primarily grow lentils for the sake of the flowers and in places where we want to keep the weeds down.
