Common vetch is an overlooked summer flower, which is mostly known because it is grown in agriculture as a cover crop - preferably together with e.g. narrow-leaved lupin. Common vetch loosens the soil with its fine roots and is also used as a fodder plant for animal husbandry (hence the name in Danish "Fodervikke")

But besides being practical, the plant itself is actually really beautiful. Common vetch is very similar to peas both in flower and growth, but is a little finer. With its climbing growth, it forms a kind of dense "bush" that continuously blooms. When the vetch has finished flowering, birds like to collect their winter food from its seeds.
