Foxglove, also known by its Latin name 'digitalis', is familiar to almost every Dane as it has been loved for generations for its metre-high flower spikes that add lightness and grace to all spaces in the garden. Digitalis grows wild in many places in Denmark and thrives in all kinds of soil. It's easy to guess why the plant got its name (Fingerbøl), as each flower on the spike looks like a tiny thimble and fits like hand in glove on a human finger - flowering starts from the bottom and ends with the top thimbles on the spike.

Foxglove is a biennial flower and only sets flowers in the second year. The first year, a large beautiful green rosette of leaves forms at ground level.
