Type: Spring and summer perennial
Height: 15-20cm
Placement: Semi-shade to full sun
Quantity: Min. 100 seeds
Germination rate: 90%
Plant spacing: 25x25cm
Color: Purple
Sowing: March-April on top of the soil. Aubrieta needs light to germinate. You can advantageously pre-germinate the seeds on the windowsill in early spring and plant them out in the summer, because the seeds are very very small and can quickly be taken by wind and rain.
Flowering: April-June. You'll need luck (or skill) to get it to flower the first year, but otherwise you can look forward to year two.
Aubrieta is a very beautiful and intense cushion-shaped groundcover with tightly packed purple flowers. The first aubrieta sprouts may look a little lanky, but the plant creates the desired cushion shape very quickly and flowers at least in the second year, if not already in the first year. Within 2 years you already have a sizable cushion to enjoy. When the plant is not in flower, it rests the rest of the year as a delicate green dense growth.
Aubrieta is best suited for planting on stone walls, in stone beds or in courtyards, but can also be grown in pots or in ordinary garden soil.
