The garden nasturtium is a marvel of a plant with many different facets.

The garden nasturtium (also known as Indian cress) produces a multitude of flowers over the course of several months. The flowers can be yellow, orange, red or a mixture of these. Both flowers and tender leaves are edible and taste similar to cress (hence the name Indian cress). The plant itself forms a huge cushion that covers the soil well and helps to keep weeds away. Garden nasturtium is a climbing plant that only grows 40-50cm tall, but spreads out during the season and if it's doing really well, one plant can cover several square metres.

As mentioned above, the plant requires plenty of space, but you can also plant it on a stone wall or an overhang, where it can then grow over with its tendrils.
