Yellow iris is a traditional lakeside or waterside flower, but can actually also thrive in ordinary garden soil - it just doesn't grow as tall and lush as it does on the lakeshore. This iris can also grow in water without any problems and does not require much soil contact.

Yellow iris is one of the most beautiful things you can get at a lakeside and since they spread via root propagation and seed propagation, you may find that they appear in several places at your lake.

Iris seeds can last for many years, and therefore germination rate is difficult to judge. You may find that an iris seed can survive in the soil for several years before it finds it has the optimal conditions to germinate. So don't give up if you don't get many plants from the start. They may come later.

As it can be difficult to sow irises in the permanent location (an overgrown water edge, for example), you can start by sowing it in a perennial bed or similar and later move it when the root network is well developed. However, it is important that the soil is kept moist until the root has taken hold.
